Michael Slater, author of Organize Your Photos with Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 and The Adobe Photoshop Album 2 Book, was the director of photo management and sharing research at Adobe Systems until November 2006. He is now working on a new startup. (See his Technology for Humans blog for ongoing updates.)
He was previously chairman of Fotiva, Inc., a company he cofounded (originally called PhotoTablet) to help people more easily manage, find, and share their photos. Fotiva was acquired by Adobe in December 2001, and the software it developed formed the core of Photoshop Album, which evolved into the Organizer in Photoshop Elements 3.
Before moving into digital photography, Michael specialized in microprocessor and PC technology. He was founder and President of MicroDesign Resources, where he created the Microprocessor Report newsletter and Microprocessor Forum and Embedded Processor Forum conferences. For many years, Michael wrote monthly columns and occasional features for many computer industry publications, including EE Times, PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, Nikkei Electronics Asia (in Hong Kong), and ASCII (in Japan).
Prior to MDR, Michael was an independent engineering consultant and an R&D engineer at Hewlett Packard. His earlier books include A Guide to RISC Microprocessors (Academic Press, 1992), Microprocessor-Based Design (Prentice Hall, 1988), and Understanding Microprocessors (Hewlett-Packard, 1978).
